HISTORY
    China National Research Center of PumpsNRCP, which was found based on the only national key discipline in China that specializes in research of pumps and drainage and irrigation equipment, was established by integrating Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology of Jiangsu Province and the Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology of Jiangsu University. The predecessor of the NRCP was the Research Office of Drainage and Irrigation Machinery at Jilin University of Technology, which was moved to Zhenjiang College of Agricultural Machinery with its integrated organizational system in 1962. NRCP, affiliated to the Branch Society of Drainage & Irrigation Machinery of Chinese Society for Agricultural Machinery, has ever been the fixed Training Center of Modern Hydraulic Machinery appointed by the Ministry of Machinery Industry of China, and is now a AAA-grade Jiangsu Credit Consulting Organization. The Journal of Drainage and Irrigation Machinery Engineering, is sponsored by NRCP. Since 1999, the Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology of Jiangsu Province has been successively evaluated as Excellent Center three times by Jiangsu Department of Science & Technology. In 2008, it was rewarded as the advanced unit of scientific and technological platform of Jiangsu Province.
    NRCP is an important base of scientific research, talents cultivation and technology development in the industry of fluid machinery (especially pumps) in China. It is the technical leading organization in the field of sprinkling machines, small-sized submersible pumps and light industry pumps in China. With three standing bodies entitled as Quality Supervision and Test Institute of Machinery Industry Product (Zhenjiang), Quality Inspection Center for Pumps specially used in light industry and Jiangsu Province Quality and Technical Inspection Station for Pump Products. The Center for Quality and Technology Tests of Fluid Machinery of Jiangsu University is a national accredited laboratory which undertakes national and industrial tasks involving product inspections, production license issuance and delegated tests, etc. It holds a multi-functional laboratory with an area of 8000 m2 and the largest irrigation testing hall in Asia. The Center purchased several international advanced technical equipments and software. It also has the Ф25-1000 multi-functional pump test platform at national Level I precision and test platforms for Ф25-500 mm model pump and pump devices (self-priming pumps, submersible pumps, etc.).
    NRCP has a contingent of high talents, and the NRCP has been very experienced in training the teams, with the innovation groups of Outstanding Subject Echelon and Scientific Innovation Team in the Jiangsu Teachers Building Project (Blue Project), Outstanding Scientific Innovation Team in the Jiangsu colleges and universities, etc. So far, the total number of the faculty and staff members reaches 56, which include 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 11 doctoral supervisors, 16 professors, 14 associate professors (or associate researchers), 1 winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 national candidates for the New Century National Hundred and Ten Thousand Talent Project, 1 winner of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation for Scientific and Technical Innovation Award, 1 National Woman Pace-setter, 7 winners of special government allowance, 5 specialists who make outstanding contributions at the provincial and ministerial levels and 4 academic leaders or mainstays selected in the ministerial New Century Talents Project.
     NRCP has a good international cooperation with companies and Universities all over the world, such as ITT, Hitachi and Groundfos. Many famous Professors, from USA, Europe, Japan and South Korea are appointed as part-time professors in NRCP, and acted as the academic committee members of the research center and Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering. NRCP holds the international forum on fluid machinery and engineering every year, which is also an international exchange and cooperation event.
     After 52 years¨ construction and development, several major research directions with special features, advantages, and prospects have been developed in NRCP. There are researches on the new-type water-saving and energy-saving irrigation technologies and equipments, numerical simulation and measurement technology of fluid machinery (pumps) and chemical process machinery, fault diagnosis and automatic control technology for the pump station and pumping system, research and application of artificial heart pump, etc. Up to now, a number of achievements have been qualified the first rate both at home and abroad, including the research on the hydraulic models and characteristics of pumps, the design and development of high-efficiency non-clogging pumps, the design of low-specific speed and non-overload centrifugal pumps, the design of Computer Aided Design(CAD) and three-dimensional modeling for pumps, the development of the military and special petrochemical pumps, the design of special reciprocating pumps, the technology and device of new-type water-saving irrigation, the technology of artificial blood pump and electromechanical integration pump, the automatic control for pump station, the design of test rigs and automatic measurement system, etc.
    Over these years, more than 200 achievements have passed the evaluation at or above provincial and ministerial level, 4 of which were awarded as National Science & Technology Advancement Award, 2 of which were granted as the National pedagogical Achievement Award, more than 90 of which were awarded as the Provincial Progress in Science and Technology. About 2000 academic papers were published, 1 National Excellent PhD Dissertation was awarded, over 50 national and industry standards were enacted or revised, 20 or so monographs and teaching materials were released, more than 70 national patents were granted. At present, 40 projects, including National High Technology Research and Development Program (HTRDP), National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Science & Technology Support Plan and those provincial and ministerial, for example, are under research, whose funding have been totaled 20 million RMB Yuan. About 80% of these achievements have been transferred into productivity. The NRCP also maintains technical cooperation with more than 1000 enterprises, and has developed 600 new products - most of them are rated as national energy-saving or renewal products, widely used for the import substitution. And dozens of the products have been applied in some domestic and foreign large or middle-scaled projects, such as South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Three Gorges Project, Diversion Project from Luanhe to Tianjin, Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply, Comprehensive Management of the Taihu Lake Basin Project and Iran Drainage and Irrigation Project, which have resulted in substantial economic and social benefits and made prominent contributions to the development of the industry of Fluid Machinery and Engineering as well.
