Recently, a delegation from the National Research Center of Pumps at Jiangsu University — comprising Professor Yuan Shouqi (Director), Professor Pei Ji (Deputy Director), Associate Professor Wang Wenjie, and Dr. Gan Xingcheng — attended the 10th International Congress of the Serbian Society of Mechanics in Niš, Serbia, and engaged in extensive academic exchanges.

The event, organized by the Serbian Society of Mechanics and hosted by the University of Niš, brought together prominent scholars and industry experts from Serbia, China, the United States, Russia, Germany, Australia, and other countries. The congress featured thematic sessions in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, and experimental mechanics. Professor Yuan Shouqi was invited to serve as an Academic Advisor, while Professor Pei Ji chaired the M2-Turbulence session.
Dr. Gan Xingcheng delivered an invited talk titled “Enhanced Intelligent Strategies for Energy-Efficiency Improvement in Centrifugal Pump Systems”, presenting the latest achievements in intelligent optimization and energy conservation for centrifugal pumps and systems. Associate Professor Wang Wenjie presented “Transient Simulation on Internal Flow and Pressure Pulsation of Variable Speed Francis Turbine during Acceleration Process”, detailing the unsteady flow mechanisms and pressure pulsations associated with acceleration under variable-speed turbine operations.

During the conference, the delegation met with Professor Djordje Cantrak, Head of the Department of Hydraulic Machinery and Energy Systems at the University of Belgrade, to discuss the progress of the Jiangsu Province Belt and Road Innovation Cooperation Project “Collaborative R&D on Key Technologies for Wind–Solar–Hydropower Complementary Variable-Speed Pump–Turbine Systems”. The two sides also held in-depth discussions on the establishment of international joint laboratories, faculty and student exchange programs, and talent development mechanisms.
In addition, the delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with Professor Zivojin Stamenkovic from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Niš on high-precision unsteady flow simulations and intelligent optimization in fluid machinery. Both parties reached consensus on future cooperation in joint research, laboratory co-construction, and academic exchange programs.
This academic exchange significantly enhanced Jiangsu University’s influence within the fluid machinery research community in Belt and Road countries, deepened international collaboration between the Fluid Center and global experts in fluid and power machinery, and laid a solid foundation for the development of the National Center for International Research on Energy Saving Technology of Fluid Engineering Equipment and the Advanced Technology for High-end Fluid Machinery Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation.
