From August 4 to 7, 2025, the 5th Asian Working Group Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems (IAHR-Asia 2025), organized by the Korean Society for Fluid Machinery under the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), was successfully held in Jeju, Republic of Korea. The conference attracted nearly 350 experts and scholars from multiple countries, who gathered to discuss cutting-edge research topics in hydraulic machinery and systems, including innovative hydropower equipment for renewable energy utilization and advances in digital twin technology. More than ten renowned domestic and international experts delivered keynote speeches during the event.

A delegation from the National Research Center of Pumps at Jiangsu University (JSU), led by Professor Peng Guangjie (Deputy Director), attended the conference. The delegation included Professor Si Qiaorui, Associate Professor Wang Wenjie, Associate Professor Chen Jia, and four other faculty members and students. On August 5 and 6, Professor Si Qiaorui and Associate Professor Wang Wenjie served as session chairs, while other members presented their research findings in parallel sessions. Among more than 300 papers submitted, Associate Professor Chen Jia’s work, “Performance Improvement of Volute Structure for a Sanitary Semi-Open Centrifugal Pump”, was awarded the Best Paper Award.

The IAHR Committee on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems is dedicated to advancing research and technological developments in the field and fostering collaboration across engineering survey, design, research and development, manufacturing, operation, and consulting. The committee organizes a symposium biennially to provide a high-level academic exchange platform for scholars worldwide. To promote academic cooperation in Asia, the committee has established a dedicated “Asian Working Group.”

Participation in this symposium enabled researchers of the Fluid Center to gain an in-depth understanding of the latest international progress in hydraulic machinery, broaden their academic perspectives, and showcase the university’s scientific achievements in hydraulic machinery engineering. The delegation’s active engagement further expanded collaborations with leading universities, research institutions, and enterprises in China and abroad. This event has provided fresh momentum for JSU’s discipline development and scientific research, laying a solid foundation for broader and deeper academic cooperation in the future.
