From April 17th to 21st, the 39th Annual Meeting of ISO/TC23/SC18 on Irrigation and Drainage Equipment was held in Madrid, Spain, with over 30 experts from 11 member countries, including China, Canada, India, Israel, Italy, the United States, and Spain, participating both online and offline. The Chinese delegation was composed of researchers from the Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research of the Chinese Academy of Water Resources and Jiangsu University, including Researcher Gao Benhu, Researcher Zhang Jinfeng, Associate Researcher Tang Lingdi, Associate Professor Cao Puyu, Associate Researcher Li Guidong, and doctoral student Ning Chao. The meeting was chaired by Eliezer Kelmeszes, the Chair of the ISO/TC23/SC18 Committee, and Helen Atarot, the Secretary-General.

The conveners and project leaders of seven standard working groups reported on the progress of relevant standard work and solicited opinions from representatives and experts from various countries. Researcher Zhang Jinfeng proposed a report on leading the revision of the international standard ISO 8224-1:2003 "Traveller irrigation machines—Part1: Operational characteristics and laboratory and field test methods", highlighting the problems with the standard and the necessity of revision. Representing China (the largest producer and user of reel irrigation machines), she suggested leading the revision of the standard. The ISO/TC23/SC18 Committee unanimously passed the proposal and decided to establish a special group led by Researcher Yuan Shouqi to revise the international standard ISO 8224-1:2003.

The proposal to lead the revision of the international standard was highly recognized by the ISO/TC23/SC18 Committee and experts from various member countries, promoting the cooperation between Jiangsu University and the ISO standardization organization and international peers, and playing an important role in enhancing the international competitiveness of China's water-saving and energy-saving irrigation technology and equipment.
