From October 2 to 4, the 18th Asian International Conference on Fluid Machinery (AICFM18) was held in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. As one of the most influential academic conferences in the field of fluid machinery, this year’s event brought together more than 200 experts, scholars and researchers from over 10 countries and regions, including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the United States, Germany, Sweden and Vietnam. Participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on frontier topics and the latest research achievements in fluid machinery. A delegation from our university, led by Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Chair of the Asian Fluid Machinery Committee and Director of the National Research Center of Pumps, and including Prof. Pei Ji, Deputy Director of the Fluid Center, Prof. Zhou Ling, Associate Researcher Lang Tao and five graduate and doctoral students, attended the conference.
At the opening ceremony, on behalf of the organizer, the Asian Fluid Machinery Committee (AFMC), Yuan Shouqi delivered a welcome address. He extended a warm welcome to all participants from afar, and introduced the history, mission and contributions of the AICFM conference. He expressed the hope that this conference would not only serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and sharing achievements, but also become a starting point for fostering cooperation and inspiring innovation, jointly advancing frontier research in fluid machinery and related systems.
During the plenary session, Yuan Shouqi delivered an invited keynote speech on behalf of Jiangsu University titled Research on Integrated Equipment for Emergency Water Supply and Purification in Mountainous and Remote Disaster Areas, which drew wide attention and high recognition from the attendees. Renowned experts from Tsinghua University (China), Waseda University (Japan), the Korea Academy of Science and Technology, the University of Danang (Vietnam) and other institutions also presented excellent invited talks on topics such as reversible pump-turbines, fluid equipment for hydrogen production powered by wind and solar energy, low-vibration and low-noise compressors, and unsteady flow in draft tubes of hydraulic turbines.
The conference featured 28 parallel sessions, with all faculty representatives from our university serving as session chairs. Faculty members and students gave session presentations based on their respective research outcomes. At the conference award ceremony, Prof. Zhou Ling received the AFMC Young Engineer Award in Fluid Machinery, while doctoral student Yang Gang won the Best Paper Presentation Award.
During the conference, Yuan Shouqi chaired a closed-door meeting of the Asian Fluid Machinery Committee. More than 20 committee members from China, Japan, Korea, Iran, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore exchanged views on the development of the fluid machinery industry in Asia and worldwide, offering valuable suggestions for the committee’s future work. The meeting also confirmed that the next AICFM19 will be hosted by the Korean Society for Fluid Machinery.
In addition, the delegation visited Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the conference host institution in Vietnam, where they held in-depth discussions on international collaborative research, joint student training and talent exchange programs.
Participation in this conference has further enhanced our university’s influence in the international fluid machinery community, strengthened substantive exchanges with overseas experts, and laid a solid foundation for the development of the National Center for International Research on Energy Saving Technology of Fluid Engineering Equipment and the Advanced Technology for High-end Fluid Machinery Overseas Expertise Introduction Center for Discipline Innovation.
