Fluid Center Achieves Outstanding Results in 2024 Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Awards

The Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government recently released the Decision of the Provincial Government on the 2024 Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Awards on its official website, honoring scientists, technologists and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress as well as economic and social development in Jiangsu Province.

The Fluid Center received two honors in this year’s awards: the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Scientists and Technologists, the first time Jiangsu University has won this award, and the Second Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. These achievements fully demonstrate the Center’s effectiveness in cultivating scientific and technological talent and its strong research capabilities in scientific innovation.

Prof. Zhang Desheng of won the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Scientists and Technologists, one of only 10 such awards granted across the province. This honor fills a gap for Jiangsu University in this award category and marks a milestone in the Center’s cultivation of young scientific and technological talent. It also highlights the strong development potential and innovation vitality of the Center’s young research team.

Prof. Zhang has long been dedicated to research on hydraulic machinery design theory and hydrodynamics. He has presided over more than 20 research projects, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, projects under the National Key R&D Program of China, and the Jiangsu Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. His research achievements have won seven first and second prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels.

Prof. Zhang has carried out a series of academic innovations in areas such as nonlinear circulation design theory for hydraulic machinery, cavitating multiphase flow, and deep-sea oil-gas multiphase transportation. His work has made important contributions to scientific and technological innovation in hydraulic machinery and to major engineering applications in China.

The project “Key Technologies for Efficient and Stable Design of Large Pumps and Pumping Systems and Their Application in Major Engineering Projects,” completed under the leadership of Prof. Pei Ji, won the Second Prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

Focusing on efficient and stable design theory for large pumps and pumping systems, intelligent hydraulic optimization technologies for large-scale water pumps, and the development of large pumping system products, the project achieved a series of key technological innovations. Its outcomes have been successfully applied in several major national engineering projects, making important contributions to technological progress and industrial development in the field of large pumps and pumping systems in China.

Taking these awards as a new starting point, the Fluid Center will closely align its work with China’s dual-carbon goals and the development needs of emerging strategic industries featuring green, low-carbon and energy-saving technologies.

On the one hand, the Fluid Center will further strengthen the connection between basic research and the engineering and industrial application of scientific and technological achievements. It will deepen collaborative innovation among industry, universities, research institutions and application sectors, and accelerate the transformation and application of high-level research outcomes.

On the other hand, the Fluid Center will continue to enhance the introduction and cultivation of high-level scientific and technological innovation talent, build high-level research teams with a well-structured composition and outstanding capabilities, and continuously improve its core research competitiveness and capacity to supply industrial technologies.

The Fluid Center will strive to make new and greater contributions to technological iteration and industrial upgrading in China’s pump and system sectors.
